Ballycliffe Lodge Class Action Lawsuit
Our team at Will Davidson LLP representing the families impacted by the tragedy at Ballycliffe Lodge is led by Gary Will, Managing Partner with the assistance of Gordon Marsden, Partner and Michael Reid, Senior Law Clerk. Ballycliffe Lodge is a long-term care home located in Ajax, Ontario, owned and operated by Chartwell Retirement Residences.
Information About the Representative Plaintiff
Margaret Roper is the representative plaintiff in the action. Margaret lost her mom, Iris Roper (pictured below) due to Covid-19 on April 20, 2020 at the age of 93.
Margaret had the following statements about her mom:
“She had four children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.”
“She was a lovely lady who was dedicated to her friends and family. She was the matriarch of the family, she loved and enjoyed her family, and she was a true spirit and will be dearly missed.”
“I consider it my duty to my mother to push for an investigation of this tragedy. Those that are responsible for this state of affairs must take responsibility and be held accountable. That is the reason I decided to go forward with this action on behalf of all the residents of Ballycliffe.
There are many well run long term care facilities in the province of Ontario. In fact over half of the long term care facilities in Ontario have no deaths, according to Gary Will. We at Will Davidson LLP salute those dedicated individuals and companies who are working so hard to keep these vulnerable residents safe and healthy in these difficult times. At the other end of the spectrum there are a small handful of homes which have accounted for the majority of deaths in long term care facilities in Ontario. Unfortunately, Ballycliffe Lodge did not properly care for its vulnerable residents and this has resulted in dozens of grieving families.
